Is it possible to pierce a child's ears?
Experts' opinions on piercing children's ears at an early age are divided. Pediatricians believe that this can be harmful, and psychologists are confident that at an early age stress Ear piercing will make things much easier. It is up to the parents to decide whose opinion to listen to. And we will try to soberly assess all the advantages and disadvantages of ear piercing in the early years.
The positive aspects include the following:
- A small child tolerates pain more easily, and negative experiences are forgotten more quickly. Especially if, as compensation for a little pain, you reward the baby with a trip to the zoo or the circus.
- At an older age, the risk of scarring increases, and punctures are more difficult to heal.
- A girl with earrings looks very cute and attractive, just like a little princess.
Negative aspects that may await you:
- The human earlobes are covered with points responsible for the vital centers of our body: hearing, vision, etc. For a child, these points are located very close, so an inexperienced master can touch them.
- Nowadays it is customary to insert earrings into the ears immediately after a piercing. The materials from which they are made may cause allergies at the girl's.
- The baby may accidentally snag an earring and tear her earlobe. This likelihood increases even more if the girl attends kindergarten. There are a lot of children there who play active, noisy games.
In addition to these points, it is worth considering the child’s health status. You should not pierce your earlobes if your child is sick, has allergies or has problems with blood clotting.
How to treat ears after piercing
If you decide to pierce your girl’s ears, then you should know that after all the manipulations, the wounds need to be constantly treated until they are completely healed. Usually, after a piercing, beauty salons immediately put in stud earrings, which are made of a special titanium alloy or surgical steel. It would be right if you leave these earrings until the puncture site is completely healed. Earrings made of gold or other precious metals can only be inserted one and a half months after the procedure.
So, what to do after getting your earlobe pierced:
- With clean, washed hands, twist the earring in different directions. This needs to be done several times a day. You cannot remove the earring from your ear.
- Wipe your earlobes twice a day with a piece of cotton wool soaked in hydrogen peroxide. Do not use alcohol, it is not suitable for small children.
- If the baby has been in contact with dirt or taken water treatments, then be sure to repeat the treatment of the ears with hydrogen peroxide.
- A month after the piercing, take out the earrings, thoroughly wipe the earlobes and the earrings themselves with hydrogen peroxide and put them back in place.
Ears festering after piercing
If, nevertheless, a girl’s ears fester after a piercing, then the reason for this may be the unprofessionalism of the master or improper care of the wound. Be sure to show your child to the doctor to avoid serious consequences of suppuration.
If you notice a tumor on the pierced earlobe, prepare a weak solution of potassium permanganate for rinsing. Rinsing should be done until the swelling decreases. Try to determine the reason why the pus appeared. Perhaps the earrings are not suitable for the child. In this case, replace them with earrings made of surgical steel; they will not oxidize.
If water or dirt gets into the wound, then use folk recipes:
- Apply fresh leaves to your earlobes aloe, securing them with an adhesive plaster with the cut side facing the wound.
- Sea salt solution disinfects well. Dilute the salt in warm water and rinse your earlobes with this mixture for several minutes.
- A plantain leaf is useful for drawing out pus from a wound. Apply it to the puncture site and secure with adhesive tape.
