Home Family and home Children Delayed speech in children: what are the reasons and what to do

In recent years, experts have noted that more and more children are silent by a certain age. This suggests that the delay in the development of speech, unfortunately, is increasingly common. Of course, the development of each child takes place individually, and there is no specific age range. But still, parents need to think about if the child is to three years old haven't uttered the first word yet.

Why doesn't the child speak

There may be several reasons why the baby is silent:

  • Injuries sustained at birth and neurological disorders. Head injuries during childbirth are not uncommon. Usually such problems do not go unnoticed by specialists. But nevertheless, it is worthwhile to once again consult a pediatric neurologist in order to exclude an illness according to his profile.

  • A mental illness called autism, which is characterized by the child's reluctance to contact the outside world and withdrawal from his feelings.
  • Insufficient hearing.
  • To kid paid little attention, they did not study or communicate with him. Unfortunately, sometimes there is such a moment.
  • Continuous pressure from adults to constantly demand that the child start talking. If punishments for the child's refusal to speak are added to these requirements, the situation is further aggravated.

The problem of the development of children's speech

In modern society, it is customary to occupy small children with all kinds of gadgets. They constantly watch cartoons, play computer games. Parents sincerely believe that this is beneficial for the development of their baby. Maybe the child really develops mentally faster, but the communication skills from watching cartoons do not improve.

It has already been proven that a child perceives a cartoon as a colorful picture, he does not feel the speech of cartoon characters as a separate means of communication. At this moment, he is captured by the brightness of the picture and the dynamics of what is happening, and he practically does not pay attention to the speech of the cartoon characters.

p3 It will be better if, instead of distracting the child with cartoons, the mother will take time for live communication with her baby. Take a walk with your child on the street, tell him about everything that is interesting to him, and before going to bed, read a fairy tale, just talk with a baby about his desires and dreams. If all this is not done on time, then why be surprised later that the child does not speak for a long time and is fascinated only by cartoons and computer toys.

But there are other families in which the child is not allowed to watch cartoons and play on the computer. Parents in such families constantly communicate with the baby focusing their attention on the development of the child. But at the same time, the child still does not speak or speaks only a few words, not being able to connect them into sentences.

This may be due to a lack of communication with children of their own age. This is very important for the correct formation of the baby's communication skills. At an early age, children constantly copy each other and adults. We can say that young children learn to talk from each other.

Delayed speech in a child: how to treat

With the timely detection of a speech delay in a baby, this deficiency is very easy and quick to eliminate. But do not think that it will be enough just to work out for a while with a defectologist. An integrated approach is required here.

It is imperative that the child is prescribed medications that are designed to stimulate cerebral circulation and improve integrative function. Sometimes the areas of the brain that are responsible for speech are exposed to the current. This helps to develop speech and cognitive processes.

p4 Classes are necessarily held with a defectologist who corrects the negative consequences of the delay in the development of the child's speech in a playful and cognitive form. The same classes will help to avoid minor deviations in speech development. The specialist will conduct a special speech therapy massage with the child, which will help to correctly form the pronunciation of sounds.

At home, you will need to perform special exercises to strengthen the speech apparatus. These classes are held regularly in a playful way - various songs, sound imitations, exercises for the facial muscles.

Remember that you should consult with a specialist if you suspect your child is experiencing a speech delay. It’s much easier to make early progress early on.
