For some people, a large number of mirrors in their living space resembles a theater hall or ballet class. Nevertheless, it is difficult to imagine a modern apartment without such a popular item as a mirror. In addition to its practical value, it serves as a stylish decorative element, with which you can visually expand the space, creating the illusion of lightness and weightlessness, as well as correctly place stylistic accents. But it would be difficult to do this without the valuable advice of interior designers.

Mirrors in the bedroom

In ancient times, mirrors were assigned certain magical properties; they were akin to ritual objects used in fortune-telling and rituals.

With the wider spread of European culture, mirror surfaces began to appear more and more often in the interior, which not only visually enlarge the space, but also become a kind of highlight, a bright accent.

However, psychologists and Feng Shui experts agree on one opinion - when it comes to mirrors in the bedroom, you should strictly adhere to the rules so as not to damage the favorable energy of the home and your own:

• Psychologists say that a large number of mirrors in the house is a sign of high self-esteem, however, this element must be used with caution. Feng Shui is also skeptical about the placement of mirror surfaces in the bedroom, especially if it reflects a person while sleeping. In this case, it works like an energy vampire, returning negative energy to the sleeping person. Avoid this position of the mirror if you believe in omens. As a last resort, equip your wardrobe with an opaque curtain.
• Not only should the body of a sleeping person not be reflected in the mirror, but also the entire bed as a whole.
• Do not hang a mirror opposite the front door, otherwise it will take away the positive energy that enters the room.
• Do not use more than 2 mirrors in the bedroom.

Accommodation options:

• For a rectangular room, several mirrored objects located along the wall are suitable, this will visually increase the length of the room.
• The ideal option is to place it at the level of the head of the bed (this will add depth to the space).
• It is possible to place mirrors on the ceiling, the main thing is that you are not reflected in it while you sleep.
• Feng Shui lovers often choose the option of mirrors on the front door, in which case you can see yourself in full height, but the space is not reflected when it is closed.

The use of mirror surfaces in the interior:

As decorative elements. In this case, the mirrors are positioned in such a way that it is difficult or impossible to see your reflection in them, but they, for example, create a play of chiaroscuro and complement the interior of various style solutions.

The classic option for placing a mirror in the bedroom is a dressing table or chest of drawers; it is most convenient to place it next to the bed. An alternative to a dressing table can be a bedside table with a mirror; this solution looks fresh and allows you to show your imagination.

Main purpose living room does not imply the presence of mirror surfaces in it, however, with their help it is possible to create interesting visual effects:

• You can expand a too-narrow room and make it more square with the help of one massive mirror or several small ones located on the long side of the room.
• A large wall or floor mirror doubles the reflection of beautiful objects and adds richness to the interior.
• A mirrored ceiling creates the effect of a higher space.
• Decorative mirrors can distract attention from defects in the room.
• You can also add light to the living room using mirrors; to do this, you need to position it so that illuminated objects, such as windows, are reflected in it.

To achieve a certain goal, you need to try to place the mirror in the right place:

• A mirror above the fireplace is a traditional option for placing a mirror in the living room. This tradition dates back to ancient times, when electricity had not yet been heard of. Several candles were placed above the fireplace; they reflected in it and made the space brighter.
• It is also appropriate to place one mirror in a frame or several miniature mirrors on the wall near the sofa. This will create the appearance of a larger space and serve as a stylish accessory.
• If you want to create an unusual interior, you can place one mirror on the entire wall or install a large wardrobe. It would be good if it was located opposite the window.

Mirrors in the hallway

If a mirror in the living room and bedroom is a matter of taste, then in the hallway, corridor and hall it becomes a necessity, which primarily has a functional role. It is the mirror that greets and escorts us out of the house; all flaws in clothing are revealed, as a rule, in this part of the apartment. In addition, by using this piece of furniture we can solve several problems at once - expand a narrow space, add light and color, create a stylish decor using an elegant frame.

Types of mirrors for the hallway:

• A full-length mirror located in the hallway is often simply necessary to critically examine your appearance when leaving for an important meeting or date. It can be mounted, floor-mounted or trellis, most importantly, do not forget about the rules of Feng Shui - it is highly not recommended to place mirrors opposite the front door. An indispensable option for a dark room is a backlit floor mirror.
• A small hanging mirror, framed in a beautiful frame, will visually elongate the space and make the ceilings a little higher.
• An oval mirror is well suited for spacious rooms, the same applies to decor from several small objects - they look good only in fairly large hallways and in good lighting.
• If you are afraid of making a mistake, choose a universal option - a rectangular mirror; a square shape goes well with a minimalist interior style.
• To combine two functional pieces of furniture, purchase a trellis or wardrobe with a built-in mirror.
  
  

Mirrors in the kitchen

Perhaps the kitchen or dining room is the last place in the apartment where we expect to see mirrors. However, designers have long mastered this territory, believing that a thoughtful arrangement and correct selection of decor will provide mirror surfaces with not only decorative, but also practical value - they will expand the space and originally complement the overall look.

Placement of mirrors in the kitchen interior:

• Built-in mirrors, which are used as a kitchen apron, are very popular today. It can be an ordinary mirror, but before installation it would be better to protect it from exposure to water and dirt using special means. Washing such an apron is no more difficult than a regular ceramic one.
• You can also embed a mirror surface into a wall niche or just a section of the wall between pieces of furniture; this will add a festive feel to the room.
• But still, a mirror is an interior item that is more suitable for installation in the dining area. If you believe in Feng Shui, placing a life-size wall mirror directly opposite the dining table creates an effect of abundance, many believe it brings prosperity.
• The use of mirrors in kitchen facades is not as popular as, for example, in ordinary wardrobes. This solution is non-standard and requires some effort to clean up.
• You can simply install a mirror in a frame on a free section of the wall that is not crowded with furniture or decorated with other decor. Be creative - expand the space, play with the geometry of shapes and add color to a boring interior.

Mirrors in the nursery

Psychologists say that a baby can be introduced to his own reflection as early as 2-4 months, by placing it, for example, near a changing table. Over time, the child will begin to pay attention to him.

At one and a half years old, the baby no longer doubts that he sees himself in the mirror, so you can buy a full-length mirror. This will teach not only self-identification, but also neatness; in a large mirror you can easily see a dirty mouth or stains on clothes.

After the child turns two years old, it would be a good idea to hang a small shelf or trellis with toiletries next to the mirror.

Manufacturers often decorate children's mirrors with built-in clocks or lamps.

If there is an unnecessary mirror in the house that is not very suitable for children’s use, do not rush to put it in the closet, show your imagination, decorate the mirror and make it a unique interior detail. Cover the mirror frame with the same fabric that was used in the textile design of the room (sofa upholstery, bed linen, curtains). This option can be improved by adding padding polyester as a layer of frame and fabric to create a “soft” mirror.

To create together with your baby, you can use any materials - appliqués, beads, shells, corals, permanent paints and glass mosaics.

Decorative mirrors for interior

Decorative mirrors in interior are necessary to create a certain perception of it and a bright accent, albeit small, but sometimes changing the overall picture.

Decorative mirrors made of acrylic, a durable and lightweight material, have gained particular popularity recently. Acrylic does not distort the image and is ideal for use in children's rooms, because if damaged it does not break into fragments. Acrylic is not subject to temperature changes and is easy to process.

A composition of acrylic mirrors, consisting of several objects, creates a special airiness and weightlessness in the room.

For small rooms, a wardrobe can serve as a practical and stylish interior element at the same time.
