Master class: how to sew a top and a skirt with an elastic band for a girl
Mom is not only the most loving person in the world, but also a cook, stylist and craftswoman in one "bottle". To please the baby with new outfits, everyone can do it, while spending quite a bit of time. Today the article is a detailed master class on sewing two simple things for a girl at once: a light top and a skirt with an elastic band.
This sewing option is interesting in that the outfit can be sewn to yourself using a pattern dress basics... The principle of changing the pattern is identical, with one exception - in the adult scheme, the breast tuck must be closed in advance. The skirt is cut in the same way as a child's. Then mom and daughter will walk like twins, and little princesses, oh, how they like to be like mom in everything.
Top for girls: pattern
The topic will be built on the basic pattern of the children's dress, which can be seen here... Take only one measurement from the child - the length of the top. Now proceed to building the drawing.
- Measure from the neck down the length of the top. Draw a horizontal line.
- Lower the neck of the front and back by 1 cm.
- Divide the shoulder line in half and connect the "lowered" neckline with the dividing point of the shoulder with a smooth line, on both halves.
- In the armhole of the back and front, back off 2-3 cm and from this point draw a straight line to the point of dividing the shoulder, forming a new armhole.
- Cut off any excess.
As a result, you will get such a pattern.
Transferring the patterns to the fabric, expand the bottom of the centimeter by 4, on each side.
How to sew a top for a girl
What is required to sew a top:
- jersey - 0.5 m;
- elastic band, 0.5 cm wide - 0.5 m;
- decorative tape - 0.5 m;
- oblique inlay 30 cm;
- threads to match the fabric.
Transfer the pattern to the fabric, taking into account the seam allowances. If you have chosen a transparent fabric, the allowances should not be more than 0.5 cm, for ordinary canvases - 1 cm. In total, you will get 3 cut details: 2 halves of the back, 1 front.
Fold the back and in front of each other, pin off the side seams and sew on a typewriter.
Measure out the required amount of rubber on the child. The latter should not tighten, but also not slip. Fasten the finished elastic with needles from the seamy side along the bottom of the product.
Sew elastic to top using elastic zigzag (dotted).
Fold the product in half, facing inward. Sew an elastic band, closing it in a circle. It is not necessary to do this on a sewing machine, you can do with hand stitches.
Finish the armhole by sewing the fabric folded inward.
Next, you need to make a drawstring for the decorative tape, due to which the T-shirt will not fall off. You can do it yourself by folding a small edge of the fabric and sewing it on a typewriter. However, I decided to use a bias inlay for these purposes. In my opinion, it is less laborious and looks much neater.
That's all. Now all that remains is to thread the decorative tape into the drawstring and try it on on the child. Here's a T-shirt we got.
On the neckline and back cuts, I sewed sequins with beads in the form of flowers, but, unfortunately, the photo was not included in the article. You can also freshen up the T-shirt and give it a childish playfulness of your choice. Now let's move on to the skirt, because the suit should be complemented.
Diy elastic skirt
My daughter, just like all girls, loves sun skirts very much because they spin a lot. It is impossible to refuse a child, so it was customary to sew such a skirt with an elastic band. Earlier we published a master class on sewing a skirt-sun on the belt, you can familiarize yourself with it here... A skirt with an elastic band is sewn much faster and easier.
You will need:
- any material you like, preferably cotton (I used cambric) - 1 meter;
- elastic band, 3-4 cm wide.
Measure the circumference of the child's hips. Divide the resulting number by 2 and multiply by 0.32 - you get the radius of the skirt.
- Fold the fabric in half, mark the center at the fold.
- From the center, to both sides and down, measure the resulting radius and draw a semicircle.
- Measure the length of the future skirt from a semicircle. Draw a second semicircle.
- Cut out.
You will end up with one big detail.
Overlock or machine the edges of the product in order to prevent their "crumbling".
Fold the bottom of the skirt to the width of the overlock stitch and machine a seam along the entire hem.
Measure the required amount of elastic on the child (already at the waist). Pre-check that the elastic comes off over the thighs. Sew the ends together.
Place the top of the skirt in the elastic (right sides). Thread the elastic with the needles, spreading the fabric evenly. Then sew it on a typewriter, with the same elastic zigzag.
The skirt is also ready. Fast, simple, beautiful and the child is happy. This is how our "tandem" looks.
