New Year's garlands
New Year is approaching, and this means that it’s time to think about gifts for loved ones, about where and with whom to spend New Year's night, as well as how to decorate your home and the beautiful Christmas tree. Of course, all decorative elements can be purchased at any store, but it’s more interesting to be creative and make decorations for your home and Christmas tree yourself. And if you have small children, then you can involve them in making decorative jewelry; it will be fun, exciting and interesting for any child.
Craft with a child: paper garland 
The easiest option is to make beautiful garlands from paper. You can use cardboard, colored and foil paper, plain white and other options. The most famous paper garland is the chain garland. For it you will need paper, it can be plain or multi-colored, scissors and PVA glue. Small strips are cut out of paper, the first is folded into a ring and glued with glue. The next strip of paper is inserted into the first ring and glued together in the same way. The result is a long paper chain.
Another, simplest option is to cut colored strips of paper and glue, sew, or simply attach them to a rope or thick thread. 
The next option for a decorative garland is to cut out figures that will be attached to the rope. These can be of different sizes snowflakes of various shades and sizes, men, snowmen, deer, mice, hearts, flowers, stars, penguins, Christmas trees and much more, which is enough for your imagination. Snowmen and penguins can be painted or cut out and glued on with colored scarves or hats. Garlands in the form of golden or silver figures, for example, stars or Christmas trees, will look very beautiful and original. You can find such paper, or cover the figures with a special varnish or shiny paint.

You can also make lanterns from paper, string them on a string and the garland is ready. A more complicated option - you will need small boxes, you can use matchboxes, floss, or thin packaging tape, scissors, glue and colored paper, or New Year's themed packaging. Cut rectangles out of paper so that you can use them to wrap the boxes. Wrap each box in paper and glue it together. Tie wrapping tape on top like a gift. You will get a lot of small gifts; they can be glued or strung on a thick thread and hung on the wall or Christmas tree.

DIY Christmas garlands 
In fact, garlands can be made from anything, even things you can find around your home. These can be small soft toys, buttons, Christmas tree or pine cones, cookies, popcorn, small Christmas tree decorations, photographs, pictures from glossy magazines, pompoms, beads, even orange peels. The main thing is to show a little imagination and work with your hands.
If you have a sewing machine and pieces felt or fleece, then you can sew small figures of men, Christmas trees, snowmen. Sew them together, or attach them to a rope or ribbon and you will get an original garland. For more originality, you can attach the figures to the rope using small clothespins.

If you have miniature toy Christmas tree balls, you can string them on a beautiful ribbon or rope and hang them on the wall, or decorate a small Christmas tree with such a garland. 
A garland can be made using orange peels, cinnamon sticks, pine cones, small Christmas balls and ribbons. You will get not only a beautiful and unusual decoration for your home, but it will also be exude a light spicy-citrus aroma.
If you have a lot of pine and fir cones lying around your house, then you can safely make a garland from them. All or half of the cones can be covered with white paint to imitate snow, or covered with silver paint. The same decor can be created for a feather garland. If the feathers are white, then golden paint would be an ideal option for coating.

A garland can be made from gingerbread cookies, it will decorate your home. To do this, prepare ginger cookies according to any recipe. It will be better if you make it curly - Christmas trees, men, deer, houses. Then there are two options: the first is to make a hole at the top of each liver and make a ribbon, making it like a Christmas tree decoration, after that all that remains is to string it on a thread. The second option is to make a couple of holes in the middle of the cookies, pass a beautiful long ribbon through them, thus stringing each cookie at the same distance.
