Rice milk
Rice milk is not often found in Russian stores, but with a certain tenacity it can be found on sale or prepared on your own. This product can be a fairly good substitute for traditional cow's milk, although it has less nutritional value.
The benefits of rice milk
The reason for avoiding conventional dairy products can be very different. It can be lactose intolerance, allergy to traditional milk, or a conscious switch to products only of plant origin. Even for those people who do not give up on regular milk, a rice-based milk drink can be beneficial.
Rice milk was invented as a replacement for one of the traditional favorite drinks of the Moors, orshata. It was made on the basis of chufa. From the Moors, the drink passed into Spanish cuisine, and then into the cuisine of the peoples of Latin America. But since there was no main component for the preparation of this drink, they began to look for a replacement for it. After some trial and error, they began to cook orshat based on rice and almonds.
Nowadays, rice milk is mostly popular in the United States, where you can buy it in any supermarket. Rice milk is also widespread in India, where, as in the United States, many adhere to strict vegetarianism.
Rice milk, made from wild rice and water, contains 113 kcal per 100 grams. At the same time, one cup of this drink carries about 13 g of sugar, 2 g of saturated fat, 1 g squirrel and 22 g carbohydrates... Thanks to its plant origin, this drink is free of harmful cholesterol and lactose, but contains a sufficient dose of niacin, B vitamins, magnesium, iron and copper.
During production, other vitamins are added to the prepared drink, as well as calcium. But still, such a drink cannot serve as a full substitute for cow's milk. It is not recommended for use for food. babies, as it does not contain enough protein and a lot of carbohydrates.
Contraindications and harm of rice milk
Despite the benefits that rice milk brings to humans, this product also carries a fair share of harm. Some studies in the United States have found that rice drinks contain a fairly large dose of a toxic substance such as arsenic. The dose of this poisonous substance for an adult is safe, so it can be consumed without the risk of poisoning. But children are not recommended to drink milk from rice until they reach the age of four years. In addition, rice milk contains other substances that can harm your health.
