The genre of a horror or mystical thriller is one of the most favorite genres of modern directors. And all because there are more and more people who like to experience a painful feeling of fear and expectation of something terrible (the so-called "suspense"). We have compiled for you a rating of the most "terrible" films that keep viewers in suspense until the end credits and leave an unforgettable viewing experience.

Descent (2005)

The film was directed by Briton Neil Marshall in 2005. Despite its modest budget, the film was warmly received by audiences and critics and even won the Saturn Award for Best Horror Film.

This story is about a group of adventure girls, lovers of extreme adventures. They regularly traveled to different parts of the world to test themselves for resilience and ability to survive in harsh conditions. This time sportswomen and just beauties dare to explore the unexplored mountain ranges of the Appalachians.

Soon, a grotto appears in front of them, which, driven by curiosity, the friends want to immediately explore from the inside. Suddenly, the entrance to the cave is filled with stones and the girls are cut off from the outside world. It immediately turns out that the head of the group, Juno, did not plan this route for the excursion at all and now the rescuers have no idea about their whereabouts. After a little skirmish, the beauties move further and further along the narrow aisles of the grotto.

The girls discover an old metal hook and understand that someone has already visited the cave before them, and one of the athletes claims that she saw a man. Girlfriends write it off as hallucinations, but a little later everyone is convinced that terrible humanoid monsters are wandering very nearby, from meeting with which the blood runs cold. Nightmare creatures begin a real hunt for people and it is not known whether at least someone from the group will survive ...

The Conjuring (2013)

One of the most popular and unusual tricks of directors of horror films when a motion picture is based on real events of the past. This time the director of the cult "Saw" has created a real masterpiece in his genre, the story of the Warren couple (Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson) who investigate the causes of paranormal phenomena around the world.

The film begins with a short introduction about two young girls-educators who discovered in their house a certain doll, which was possessed by the ghost of the girl Annabelle and is now trying to destroy their lives. For the Warrens, the mystery of the evil ghost turns out to be quite simple, they easily deal with it and take the doll home, to their store, where many different things for magical rituals are collected.

The following story initially baffles even experienced ghost and ghost fighters like Ed and Lorraine Warren. They are approached by the Perron family - a father, a mother and their five daughters, who have come face to face with a powerful demonic entity. The thing is that they recently acquired a spacious and lovely house, located far from the noisy city. And at first everything went great - the parents are happy, the children are happy, only their dog Nancy does not want to go into the house and master a new home.

One day the girls discover a basement boarded up by boards, after which terrible things begin in the house - the dog suddenly dies, the clock stops at the same time, the children hear voices calling to play blind man's buff, everything is teeming with evil ghosts. The platforms are trying to solve the terrible riddle of the old house and discover an archive from which they learn that everyone who was once associated with this eerie place has died.

Messengers (2007)

The American-Canadian motion picture "The Messengers" is slightly less known to fans of thrillers and horror films than the two previous films. Nevertheless, he took his niche in a number of similar paintings and collected a good box office.

The story tells about the Solomon family, which consists of a father, mother, teenage girl Jess (Kristen Stewart) and little Ben. They leave the bustling Chicago and settle on a secluded farm in North Dakota to begin a measured and quiet life.

Slowly they are establishing the economy, equipping house with the help of a new employee. Parents and Ben are happy with the new home, but Jess constantly demonstrates her character, because she did not plan to move from Chicago, where her school and friends remained, to a godforsaken village. Father and mother try to reason with her and explain that solitude and clean air will only benefit her, but later they begin to think that their daughter is a little crazy. But the point is completely different - it's just that only Jess and Ben are able to see otherworldly entities who are not at all friendly to new tenants. Children want to warn adults, but they do not believe them, considering such stories to be silly inventions. Meanwhile, the danger is approaching closer and closer ...

Omen (2006)

The Omen, filmed in 2006, is the eponymous remake of the Oscar-winning film by Richard Donner, which won the highest award for best soundtrack.

Robert Thorne is a high-ranking diplomat who works in Italy and is alien to mystical apocalyptic predictions. But in his life he has to deal with events that do not lend themselves to a logical explanation.

Thorn and his wife are expecting a happy event, they should have child... But on the 6th, 6th month, 6th year, the baby suddenly dies during childbirth and, in order not to upset his wife, the priest of the Catholic Church persuades the diplomat to take into the care of another boy who was born on the same day. Thorne agrees, the parents name the boy - Damien.

The next five years turned out to be completely cloudless for the family, Thorne's career went uphill, he became an assistant to the ambassador, and after the death of the ambassador, he assumed his duties.

On the day of Damien's 5th birthday, a series of strange events begins - the boy's governess commits suicide, suddenly, out of nowhere, a new nanny appears, the photographer who was filming the holiday finds terrible omens of death in the photo. In addition, Robert begins to be persecuted by a crazy priest, who claims that his adopted son is none other than the messenger of the Devil, the Antichrist, who carries the power of Satan on earth. Somnia (2016)

The American horror film "Somnia" was filmed back in 2013, but for some reason it was shown to viewers only in mid-2016.

A young married couple of Hobsons are experiencing a terrible loss - the death of their little son Sean. Spouses cannot cope with grief for a long time, but over time they still decide to adopt another child. It becomes eight-year-old Cody - a sweet and kind boy who in his years has already gone through a lot. His own mother died long ago, and the former adoptive parents disappeared under strange circumstances, died or went crazy.

Newly minted parents alarming only one thing - Cody is afraid to fall asleep, so secretly swallows a variety of medicines. Soon they understand the reason for this behavior, because the boy's dreams tend to come to life and not all of these dreams are rainbow. The nightmares that haunt the boy in life come true when he sleeps. Sometimes these nightmares are deadly for others ...

Another favorite technique of scriptwriters and directors filming "horror films" is an imitation of documentary shooting, when one of the characters allegedly filming everything that happens on a video camera. One such example, along with the American films "The Blair Witch" and "The Paranormal Activity," is the Spanish film "Reportage" from 2006.

Angela Vidal - TV reporter for one of the news programs on television, yearns to become a famous journalist and finds an easy way for this - filming "hot" sensations. And now, finally, she had a good opportunity to demonstrate her talents.

Together with a team of firefighters, rescuers and her operator Pablo, she hurries to the house, where unusual and eerie incidents take place. There they find dozens of people scared to death. Going inside, the team finds a woman in one of the apartments who does not behave quite adequately and bites one of the policemen on the neck. Several more residents of the strange house are also bitten, all of them are now infected, people go berserk and rush to others. The arriving sanitary inspector announces quarantine and now everyone who is in the house is in a terrible trap and this can cost them their lives, because everything around is teeming with evil zombies ...

Let Me In (2010)

Let Me In is a mystical thriller by a Swedish director based on a story from the novel of the same name. The film received critical acclaim and won many high-profile industry awards.

Oscar, 12, lives in a small settlement near Stockholm. Despite his young age, the boy fully felt all the injustice of the world. He is raised by his mother, because father has not lived with them for a long time, moreover, he often applies to the bottle. Oscar has no one to protect, so he regularly suffers humiliation, kicks and slaps from peers. The boy is used to such an attitude, but still wants revenge. In his secret notebook, he describes in detail the murders and bullying of the offenders, only on paper he can pour out all his hatred and anger, breaking the necks of the enemies and sucking the blood out of them.

But the situation changes dramatically when one day Oscar meets a strange girl who lives next door. She loves to walk at night and even during cold weather wears light clothes. Two social outcasts instantly become best friends. Eli teaches the boy how to stand up for himself and fight off the offenders, and Oscar tries to awaken the ability to love in his friend. And everything would be fine if it were not for the girl's unusual feature ...

I am a legend (2007)

"I Am Legend" is the world-famous American blockbuster by Francis Lawrence, the adaptation of the novel of the same name. The shooting of the film began in the 90s and the main role in it was supposed to be played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, but due to the meager budget it was decided to freeze them indefinitely, as a result, the picture was filmed only in 2007, in which Will played the main role Smith.

Finally, a cure for cancer was invented, but in fact it turns out that it was a terrible virus that destroyed most of the planet. Millions of people died, and those who survived mutated into humanoid creatures hungry for blood. The post-apocalyptic world is inhabited by creatures - zombies that go hunting only at night.

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Neville sent his family along with other New Yorkers to a safe place, while he himself stayed to invent a vaccine against the terrible virus, he records all his experiments on tape. Attempts to contact people remain unsuccessful - he is all alone in the city. In order not to go crazy with loneliness, he goes in for sports, communicates with his dog and tries to act as if nothing happened, talking to mannequins in the store.

Soon he discovers that he is not alone in the city - he is rescued by a woman named Anna, who, together with her son, moves towards the colony of survivors.

Nobody survived (2012)

"No One Survived" is a film by aspiring Japanese director and screenwriter Ryuhei Katamura, which premiered in Russia in 2013. In this film, any fan of thrillers and horror will find what he will like - intrigue, riddles and bloody scenes of violence.

The thriller tells how a group of criminals captures a couple of young people - a girl and a guy in order to find out the PIN codes of credit cards and bank cells from them in order to get rich. But when the bandits decide to inspect their hostages' car, they find a surprise in the trunk - in it lies a young lady bound with ropes, who turns out to be a kidnapped student. From this unexpected turn, the most interesting begins - after all Man, at whose expense the criminals were going to profit and there is that bloody maniac who staged a massacre at a party at the end of the semester ...

The main role in the film was played by the incomparable Luke Evans, his image of a maniac could stand on a par with such famous characters as Cannibal Lector. In the picture, he reveals a whole philosophy about the relationship between the victim and the hunter. In the rest of the film, this is a standard story with a whole ocean of blood, various instruments of torture and a completely predictable ending.

Sinister (2012)

The American horror film Sinister (translated as "sinister") was released in 2012 and immediately found thousands of fans around the world eager to continue the first part.

The story begins with the fact that the author of popular books of the detective genre, Allison, together with his family, in search of new topics, moves to a small town, to the house where an ominous incident took place a year ago. The thing is that, for some unknown reason, all the residents of this house were brutally killed, only a little girl survived, and even she was not found and disappeared without leaving a trace. The culprit was never found.

The head of the family unexpectedly discovers videotapes in the attic, from which it becomes clear that this was not the first murder, several families had already died and a child had disappeared in each of them.

While the father is keen on searching, strange things begin to happen in his own family - Trevor's son is constantly tormented by nightmares, and his daughter begins to draw bloody murder scenes. Where will Ellison's further investigation of this tangled case lead? What danger did he put his family and children in?
