  • For cooking porridge, it is advisable to use dishes with a thick bottom. This way the finished dish will be tasty and will not burn on the pan.
  • Unlike most cereals, which are placed in cold water, corn grits should be immersed in boiling water, after salting and sugaring the liquid.
  • If porridge is prepared as a side dish, then when cooking it is worth using the proportions of 3 to 1 (water: cereal), but if milk porridge is cooked, then it is better to increase the proportions to 4 to 1 (milk: cereal). 5

You can cook corn grits not only in a saucepan, but also in the microwave and oven. In the first option, you need to use a glass dish with a lid, turn on the device at maximum power and set the timer first for seven minutes, then stir and set for another five minutes. It is convenient to cook porridge in the oven as a second course with vegetables in clay pots. Cooking time at 180°C is about an hour.

Corn porridge with milk is one of the delicious and healthy treats for kids, and adults too. If the dish is prepared for the smallest children, then the fat content of the milk should not exceed 1%. If you couldn’t find this in the store, then take the usual 3.2% and dilute it with boiled water.

Prepare corn porridge with milk as follows:

  1. Pour three glasses of water into a thick-bottomed saucepan and bring to a boil.
  2. After boiling, add a pinch of salt and one glass of corn grits.
  3. Stirring frequently, cook the porridge for half an hour.

This porridge must be cooked immediately before serving and served while still hot, otherwise it can become very thick.

How long to cook corn porridge

The cooking time for corn grits should be determined based on the grinding of the grits. On average it's half an hour.
