Home Health Photodermatitis: symptoms and treatment

In the Middle Ages, people who were afraid of the sun were considered vampires or werewolves. With the advent of medicine, these myths were dispelled. Therefore, in this article we will give a precise definition of photodermatosis and consider methods of its treatment.

Symptoms of photodermatitis

Photodermatosis is divided into two types:

  • acquired;
  • congenital.

Acquired photodermatosis can occur due to a chemical reaction with cosmetics and skin care products. That is, the sun hitting the skin with perfumes may cause chemical burns.

Also, in case of liver diseases, cases of photodermatitis cannot be excluded.

Congenital is a hereditary disease that can be passed on through generations.

Photodermatitis is often confused with allergies, as rashes appear on the skin in the form of red spots. But the disease can still be identified by the following signs:

  • swelling at the site of sun exposure;
  • burning;
  • peeling;
  • general malaise;
  • yellow complexion;
  • weakness;
  • severe headache.

In severe cases of the disease, a person may lose consciousness. The skin also thickens and severe pigmentation with hemorrhage appears.

Treatment of photodermatitis

If you notice at least one sign, then you should consult a dermatologist. He will order blood and urine tests. Only after this can the diagnosis be confirmed or refuted.

Treatment does not involve a radical method. Local treatment drugs are prescribed, for example, ointment with zinc or glucocorticoids. Panthenol is used to restore the skin. For severe itching, antiallergic drugs are prescribed. For general body maintenance use vitamins group A, B, E, C and nicotinic acid.

If photodermatitis occurs due to liver disease, which is revealed by a urine test, then medications are prescribed to support the functioning of this organ.

Treatment of the skin lasts until all rashes disappear and the wounds heal.

The course of liver restoration usually lasts at least 30 days. But don't think that once will be enough. Now this organ will need constant protection.

Prevention of photodermatitis

It is possible to live with a sun allergy. Don't think that now you can only go outside at night.
