Home Health Photodermatitis: symptoms and treatment

In the Middle Ages, people who were afraid of the sun were considered vampires or werewolves. With the advent of medicine, these myths were dispelled. Therefore, in the article we will give an exact definition of photodermatosis and consider ways to treat it.

Photodermatitis symptoms

Photodermatosis is classified into two types:

  • acquired;
  • congenital.

Acquired photodermatosis can result from a chemical reaction with cosmetics and skin care products. That is, the sun hitting the skin with perfume may cause chemical burns.

Also, with liver diseases, cases of photodermatitis are not excluded.

Congenital is a hereditary disease that can be passed down through generations.

Photodermatitis is very often confused with allergies, as rashes appear on the skin in the form of red spots. But still, the disease can be determined by the following signs:

  • swelling at the site of sun exposure;
  • burning;
  • peeling;
  • general malaise;
  • yellow complexion;
  • weakness;
  • Strong headache.

In a severe form of the disease, a person may lose consciousness. There is also a thickening of the skin and there is a strong pigmentation with hemorrhage.

Photodermatitis treatment

If you notice at least one sign, then it is worth contacting a dermatologist. He will prescribe a blood and urine test. Only then can the diagnosis be confirmed or denied.

Treatment does not involve a radical method. Topical medications are prescribed, such as zinc ointment or glucocorticoids. Panthenol is used to restore the skin. With severe itching, anti-allergic drugs are prescribed. For general maintenance of the body use vitamins group A, IN, E, C and niacin.

If photodermatitis has occurred due to liver disease, which is revealed by a urinalysis, then drugs are prescribed to maintain the work of this organ.

Treatment of the skin lasts until all the rashes disappear and the wounds heal.

The liver recovery course usually lasts at least 30 days. But don't think that once is enough. Now this body will need constant protection.

Prevention of photodermatitis

You can live with sun allergies. Do not think that now you can only go outside at night.
