Home Health Causes, symptoms and treatment of osteoporosis

Many people know that the cells of our body are constantly renewed. Bone tissue is no exception. The process of complete skeletal renewal takes about ten years. However, in some people, the loss of bone cells precedes the formation of new ones. This is how osteoporosis manifests itself.

Causes of osteoporosis

As a result of osteoporosis, bone tissue becomes thinner and becomes very light and fragile. Cavities filled with air form in the thickness of the bone. This process begins to progress after the age of 30. To one degree or another, the disease affects all people, but in some categories of people the disease develops faster.

o1 Osteoporosis most often occurs in women. Moreover, this happens during menopausal changes. This is due to the fact that the hormonal changes that occur at this time in the female body greatly affect the process of bone formation.

Women at risk include:

  • When menopause occurs before age 45.
  • Having undergone surgery to remove the internal genital organs (ovaries or uterus).
  • Cessation of menstruation due to an unbalanced diet or heavy physical labor.

Men are much less likely to suffer from this disease. Most likely, the cause of this phenomenon is the male hormone testosterone, which protects the bones from the development of the disease. With a decrease in testosterone formation, the likelihood of osteoporosis increases sharply.

Symptoms of osteoporosis

In the initial stage, the disease proceeds calmly, the person does not feel any of its manifestations. But this does not mean that nothing happens inside the body. When the disease reaches a certain stage, the first symptoms of the disease appear. Most often, a person begins to feel aching pain in the back. Usually, painful sensations appear due to prolonged stay in one position. Then they begin leg cramps, namely in the muscles of the feet and legs. As a rule, cramps begin at night.

o2 Then the nails become brittle, the person develops periodontal disease, and begins to feel pain in the lower back and other bones. Palpitations often occur. All this also indicates osteoporosis.

Degrees of osteoporosis

There are three degrees of development of this disease, indicating its severity.

At the initial stage, the disease occurs without any symptoms and can only be detected with a special examination. An X-ray examination is usually carried out, as a result of which a decrease in bone density is detected.

o3 During the second stage, bone density continues to decrease. This can be seen on x-rays. The spine takes on a special shape characteristic of this disease. The disease begins to manifest itself externally - the person begins to experience severe pain in the joints, muscles and bones.

At the third stage, osteoporosis can be recognized by external observation. And on x-rays, pronounced transparency of all vertebrae appears.

Treatment of osteoporosis

Osteoporosis requires a long-term and comprehensive approach to treatment. This takes into account the patient’s condition and the degree of damage to the bone disease. With the help of medications, you can solve several problems at once - relieve pain and inflammation, increase the calcium content in the body, and slow down the process of bone destruction. For this purpose, painkillers, vitamins, and calcium are prescribed.

Physical activity is a must. It is necessary to perform special gymnastics for the joints, consisting of simple exercises. They need to be performed daily, while the complex itself is developed by the doctor taking into account the patient’s condition.

o6 Since the disease depends entirely on the level of calcium in the body, it is necessary to adhere to a special diet and take calcium supplements. It is best to take them in the evening with a glass of water. It is optimal to use drugs in effervescent form; they are absorbed faster by the body. The use of medications should be accompanied by taking vitamins. This will help improve the absorption of calcium and provide nutrition to the bones.

Traditional treatment of osteoporosis

This treatment is useful in the early stages of the disease. Almost all recipes are aimed at replenishing calcium deficiency in the body and improving its absorption.

Ingestion of mumiyo solution helps to absorb calcium well. Take a piece of mummy, no larger than the head of a match. Then dissolve it in a glass of water and drink. This should be done twice a day for two weeks.

Another recipe is made using lemon and eggs. Squeeze the juice from 10 fruits and add 6 raw eggs to the same container. Cover the container and leave at room temperature for several days until the eggs have dissolved. Then add 100 ml of cognac and 300 grams of natural honey. Take a large spoonful of this tincture daily for a month.

o5 Can be used as a medicine against osteoporosis eggshells. It must be washed, dried in the sun or in a low-heat oven. Then the shell must be crushed to form a powder. Take shells daily as a food supplement.

Herbal infusions can be used for treatment. For example, a mixture of tinctures of pikulnik, knotweed and horsetail gives a good effect. The first two tinctures should be taken in three parts, and the horsetail tincture should be taken in four parts. Mix everything and drink a large spoon in the morning.

Prevention of osteoporosis

As you enter adulthood, preventing osteoporosis should become your lifestyle. Then you can delay the onset of the disease. To begin with, switch to a balanced and nutritious diet and give up bad habits. This primarily applies to alcohol and tobacco.

Your diet should include foods high in calcium. These are, first of all, fermented milk products, eggs, herbs, sprouted cereals, sea fish and liver. Cereals also contain an analogue of female sex hormones – estrogen.

o4 If you cannot bring your calcium intake to the daily norm, then make up for the deficiency with pharmaceutical preparations. For women in menopause, it is recommended to take female hormone medications that compensate for the lack of their own hormone without negative consequences.

Be sure to give your body regular exercise. These should be moderate loads - walking, dancing, running. It is beneficial to do moderate intensity strength training.

Be sure to take solar baths. Ultraviolet rays are practically the main natural source of vitamin D, which is beneficial for the process of bone tissue formation. If you do not have the opportunity to often go to a resort where there is a lot of sun, then get a tan under ultraviolet lamps.
